Hidden behind an unassuming façade is the veritable warren which is Himkok, the bar which established Scandinavian cocktail culture when Erk Potur opened it in 2015. Under bar manager Maros Dzurus’ stewardship, it continues to push boundaries and innovate. Featuring its own distillery where the team makes house aquavit, gin and vodka, the heart of Himkok is at the first bar space you arrive into. A 1930s aesthetic of dark wood, gilded mirrors and low lighting is paired with signature drinks like the Birch – a Martini-style cocktail served with a blue cheese-stuffed olive.
Continuing through the building, there’s an expansive outside terrace, a tap cocktail system allowing for speedy service and even a barbershop on the top floor. Slick, sophisticated service and a focus on the guest experience with a sense of fun is what puts this bar, and in turn Oslo, on the worldwide cocktail map.
